About Us

Hannah & Paul met in 1984 and after a whirlwind romance that lasted four months, they were married. Paul at the time was an IT geek and Hannah went on to complete her Fine Art studies while raising two young girls. She made time to explore her artistic creative talents, creating functional decorative ceramics from home.

These humble beginning couldn’t contain the entrepreneur in her and soon they opened a small shop in Glen Ashley followed shortly thereafter by a ceramic factory in Glen Anil. It wasn’t long before the shop moved to Umhlanga and when the new Pavilion shopping Centre opened its doors, the temptation was too great and they extended their retail profile to include a shop there as well. During this time, the opportunity came up for Hannah to travel to the East and she started sourcing hand-crafted and decor items to sell in her shops.

This enterprise grew into a wholesale business which later expanded to supplying a network of approximately three hundred retail stores country-wide, including a few overseas clients in England, Scotland and Europe. Paul left the corporate world in 2003 and one of his first projects was to build a flag-ship store and warehouses for Hannah in Bothas Hill.  Business flourished and many amazing products were created and sold. Unique scents and therapeutic  Spa products and flamboyant sleepwear apparel was manufactured and sold from here as well as upmarket teak furniture and  decor items were imported for resale around the country.

In 2010, Hannah & Paul sold up their business interest and just after the soccer world cup had finished, they rented out their small holding and went on an adventure to Bali, Indonesia and travelled around South East Asia for about a year using Bali as their home base. Unfortunately this idyllic lifestyle ended abruptly when their tenant reneged on the rent and they were forced to return to sort out the mess. With no income, some very small savings and a beautiful property to their names, they put their combined shoulders to the wheel and re-invented their lives by starting Macnut Farm Wedding Venue.

From their humble beginnings where they moved out of their house into the cottage and hosted their first receptions in the main home, this venue grew and matured into one of KZN’s premium wedding and function venues accommodating up to 200 guests with all the catering, decor and flowers done in-house. The beautiful and tranquil gardens supported this in creating amazing memories for their bridal couples on their special day. Hannah and Paul have developed many magical spaces on the property with a dedicated indoor function area and outside venues.

One of the special features at Macnut Farm is the iconic Chapel of Love, the smallest chapel in the Southern Hemisphere, beautifully decorated with individually designed and hand-crafted stain glass windows and a hand-painted ceiling inspired by the beautiful Renaissance cathedral ceilings of Europe. Hannah and Paul lovingly designed and built by hand this magical place, with Paul doing the construction while Hannah worked on the artistic elements.  Hannah and Paul are able to offer micro weddings in the chapel, during the lockdown.

The lovely little chapel is dwarfed by a giant 50 meter plus Pink Cedar tree, that shares it’s space with the chapel along the banks of the Umhlatuzana River. Under the shade of this magnificent tree is where many of Macnut Farm’s brides tie the knot on their special day. The luscious green gardens and many magical spots have been created by Hannah & Paul for amazing photographs and for guests to enjoy some time in beautiful and peaceful natural surroundings.

Paul & Hannah’s love for each other is tangible as it permeates into everything that they do for their special couples every wedding and in every project they tackle. Their ability to work so well together on a daily basis for the past 17 years is testimony of their amazing compatibility and love for each other. They dream together and are always looking to improving and growing their special piece of paradise for all to enjoy.
